When Should You Renew Your CSCS Card?
Renew early to stay on site without a gap.
An expired card means no site access, and no site access means no pay. You can renew a CSCS Card up to six months before the expiry date printed on the front, and there is no benefit whatsoever in leaving it late. Renewing early does not shorten your new card - it simply removes the risk of being turned away at the gate.

Check your expiry date
Look at the front of your card. If it expires within six months, you can renew today.
Refresh your CITB Test if needed
Your test pass must be under two years old at renewal. If it has lapsed, book your CITB Test and revise with the online CITB Test Revision material.
Submit the renewal
Complete the CSCS Card renewal application with your existing card number and evidence. The new card arrives in 5-7 working days.
Which cards can be renewed
Green, Blue, Gold, Black and White cards are all renewable provided you still hold the underlying qualification and a valid test pass. Most Red cards are not renewable at all - they are deliberately temporary, and you are expected to upgrade to the full card once your qualification is complete.
Do not let it lapse
There is no grace period. A card that expired yesterday is as useless as one that expired last year, and re-applying from scratch takes longer than renewing. Set a reminder six months out and deal with it in one sitting.
