Temporary only

Red Cards are designed as temporary cards while you gain the qualifications or experience needed for a permanent Green, Blue, Gold, Black or White Card.

What it proves

It shows you are on a recognised route into construction and have passed the relevant CITB Health, Safety and Environment Test.

Where it's accepted

Sites accept Red Cards for trainees, apprentices and provisional workers who are working towards the full qualification for their role.

Important

You cannot use a Red Card as a permanent alternative to a skilled or professional CSCS Card.

Types of CSCS Red Card

There are five Red Cards. Pick the one that matches your role.

CSCS Red Provisional Card

6 months

For new entrants to construction. Valid 6 months, non-renewable.

CSCS Red Apprentice Card

Length of apprenticeship

For registered apprentices on a formal construction apprenticeship.

CSCS Red Trainee Card

5 years, non-renewable

For those working towards a construction NVQ or SVQ.

CSCS Red Experienced Worker Card

1 year, non-renewable

For workers with on-site experience registered for an NVQ or SVQ.

CSCS Red Experienced Technical, Supervisor or Manager Card

3 years, non-renewable

For those in a technical, supervisory or management role working towards a qualification.
